Is CBD Effective in Controlling Arthritis Related Pain?

Many animal studies have been conducted to find the effect of CBD in relieving pain and these studies have shown that it has anti inflammatory and pain relieving effects. However, these studies have not been validated in humans. Many people who suffer from arthritis have tried CBD and some of them have reported good pain relief, reduction in anxiety, and improvement in sleep.

IS CBD Safe?

Much research has not been conducted on the effects of CBD. However, no serious safety concerns are linked with moderate use of the same. It is believed that CBD has the potential to interact with some of the drugs that are taken by people suffering from arthritis. You need to consult with your doctor if you take drugs like naproxen (Aleve), tramadol (Ultram), corticosteroids (such as prednisone), celecoxib (Celebrex),, tofacitinib (Xeljanz), and some anti depressants like fluoxetine (Prozac), amitriptyline (Elavil), paroxetine (Paxil), citalopram (Celexa), mirtazapine (Remeron) and some medications for fibromyalgia like pregabalin (Lyrica) and gabapentin (Neurontin).

Should You Consider CBD for Arthritis?

Without much substantial studies on the effects of CBD on arthritis, medical practitioners are still unable to say if people with arthritis can benefit from the use of CBD. Even there is confusion on the dosage and form of intake. However, many people with arthritis have used CBD to alleviate pain without any issues.

Types of CBD Products

CBD products are available in different forms that can be applied to the skin, taken orally or inhaled. Let us look into the details of these.

Oral Products

CBD that is ingested is absorbed in the digestive tract of the person. The onset of the effect of the same is delayed and also the absorption is slow. This can make dosage difficult to determine. CBD capsules can be effective after establishing the dosage. Health experts discourage users to take CBD in the form of cookies, gummies etc as dosage can be much unreliable in these cases.

Topical Creams

CBD is also available in the form of balms and creams that can be applied on skin. This can be the best way to administer CBD to a painful joint. However, it is not yet known that these products deliver CBD under the skin.

Inhalation

CBD oil can be inhaled or vaped easily, but this methods can carry some risks, especially for people suffering from inflammatory arthritis. Therefore, this is not a much recommended intake method for people suffering from arthritis.
